Transition Houses (Shelters) and Safe Homes - What are they?
These are safe places for women with or without children to find refuge from violent or dangerous situations. Depending on the situation and place, shelter can be offered for anywhere from 3 - 30 days. Women can explore options, get referrals & obtain resources and information in a supportive environment. This includes outreach support for women who are in abusive or violent situations. This can be over the phone or by drop-in appointment.

Women's Centres
Women's Centres - What are they?Women Centre's are committed to providing an environment of support for all women regardless of age, race, class or income, sexual identity or religion. These are places where a woman will feel respected and be treated with dignity. She can receive referrals to other services, use resources such as computers and talk to staff who will listen and understand. Friends are often easily made and groups and projects help to focus the intention of Women's Centres to continue to address oppression and discrimination in our society.

The NDWC offers a safe space in a cozy house in Nelson for women of all ages. They have free clothing, a resource library, computer, free food with tofu and bread on Tuesdays and veggies from Endless Harvest on Wednesdays. Resources, referrals, special discussion groups, a cup of tea and an empathetic ear can all be found here on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm.

The BWRC also offers a safe space to drop-in and have a tea and find support, you can also access the resource library, use the computer or do photocopying. They arrange events and also offer some advocacy.
Every two weeks a law firm in Victoria B.C. volunteers legal advice via a video conferencing system.
Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm and Thursdays from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm.
